LATEST DEMOCRAT ATTEMPT TO RIG ELECTIONS

Memorandum
Thursday, April 22, 2010
To: Colorado Republican Leaders
From: Dick Wadhams, State Chairman
Subject: LATEST DEMOCRAT ATTEMPT TO RIG ELECTIONS

Behind closed doors and late in the session, Democrat legislative leaders have conjured up yet another scheme to rig future Colorado elections. This time they want to have unfettered ability to gerrymander congressional district lines particularly at the expense of rural Colorado.

House Speaker Terrance Carroll and his sidekick, Secretary of State Bernie Buescher, yesterday finally gave up on their efforts to bring ACORN fraud to Colorado by allowing election day registration and voting and empowering union bosses to collect ballots and intimidate voters.

But now House Majority Leader Paul Weissmann and Senate Majority Leader John Morse have introduced their gerrymandering bill that will essentially eliminate statutory factors in congressional redistricting including keeping counties and cities whole, keeping districts compact, and most importantly for rural Colorado, maintaining communities of interest such as the eastern plains and western slope.

Secretary of State Bernie Buescher, who could have won an academy award for playing the proverbial boy caught with his hand in the cookie jar when his role in crafting the ACORN Empowerment Act was exposed, predictably claims he had nothing to do with this new attempt at rigging future elections. Fat chance.

This Weissmann-Morse bill is yet the latest assault on the integrity of Colorado’s election process but even beyond that, this is a direct assault on rural Colorado. I’m sure the citizens of Burlington can’t wait to be in the same district as the city of Boulder.

The House State Affairs Committee will vote on HB 1408 on Tuesday, April 27. If you want to stop the Democrats from passing this election rigging bill, you can contact the following Democrat members of that committee:
